How Much is Too Much?

Human desires strained to the limit...

Initiate & Impact is a newsletter about becoming and being yourself with the help of Human Design. Enjoy!

Today, I have a quote for you I just rediscovered in my quote collection*. It feels pertinent to send to you at this time of the year with all its messages of “new year, new you - buy this xyz thing to [subtext:] stop feeling like crap about yourself”.

Now, please understand, I like pretty things and enjoy buying them. At the same time, the quote below is a good reflection on whether and how much of that we want to participate in individually.

There’s no right answer. Only an individual one. Depriving yourself is as little beneficial as totally overdoing it, because you’re scared of missing out. From the perspective of Human Design, you can find a balance by following your strategy and authority.

Here’s the quote:

“We live in a society whose whole policy is to excite every nerve in the human body and keep it at the highest pitch of artificial tension, to strain every human desire to the limit and to create as many new desires and synthetic passions as possible, in order to cater to them with the products of our factories and printing presses and movie studios and all the rest.”

—Thomas Merton

Have a great start of the week,
