“Imagination is the death of imitation”. I read this sentence in a book earlier today. And what a good statement it is.

We go through life, imitating the paths of others.

If our parents are doctors, we might become a doctor ourselves. And it goes much deeper than that. Often, we live out inherited patterns when it comes to relationships, our profession, or money.

And it makes sense. Ever since we’ve been on this planet, we’ve learned a great deal through imitation. Babies learn to speak by imitating sounds. We believe we need to move through the world like everyone else does, precisely because that’s what the norm seems to be.

It’s a tricky way to live and in the very most cases leads us far away from ourselves.

We may live lives that look fine on the outside and feel like we’re dying inside.

Human Design is one of the pathways that can help you break free from the place of imitation. It can give you the most powerful tool to find and walk on your own path.

And that tool is Strategy and Authority. It’s the essence of Human Design.

Strategy refers to how you move through the world as your unique energy type. Manifestors are here to initiate. All the other types best wait for something external to come to them so they can respond to it (Generators/Manifesting Generators), accept or deny an invitation (Projectors), or wait a lunar cycle before they decide on which of the things that have come to them they want to pursue (Reflectors). Strategy is about how you do things.

Authority means how decide which things to do. Do you respond to things from your gut, wait out your emotional cycle, talk it out with others, or wait a lunar cycle? I’ll write about this more in depth in another newsletter. If you’re curious about Human Design, you’ll have likely heard about this online before at some point, anyways.

Honoring your strategy and following the whisperings of your authority will lead you to a path that is wildly your own. The cost - as most things in life come with a cost - of this is your old life.

You can’t have it both ways.

Following your inner voice and finding your own life will inevitably ask you to shed some things that were never serving you to begin with.

To let go of whatever you’ve been doing because of outside expectations or because you’ve been imitating the people around you, means letting go of jobs, relationships, and even where you live.

It’s challenging at times. And highly rewarding.

Though your authority may not speak to you with imagination in the sense of mental images, it will guide you to an imagination of your life that’s entirely your own.

It’ll be the end of you imitating the other adults imitating what they think being an adult is like.

It’ll be the beginning of you living a life that’s truly peaceful (Manifestor), satisfying (Generators/MGs), successful (Projectors), or surprising (Reflectors).

While there are many layers and elements to it that are very fun to learn about, the core of Human Design always comes down to this: Your Strategy and Authority and whether you follow them.

Do you feel you’re following your Strategy and Authority in your life?

Have a lovely day,

Johanna
