When People Say You're Aimless

Do you even need a direction in life?

Many of us live lives somebody else decided for them. Human Design offers you a path to yourself and what you truly want. This newsletter is about how you get there.

People love to tell each other how to live life.

It’s one of the most annoying things to me - and in part why I started writing this newsletter.

Human Design offers a more nuanced perspective on conventional wisdom people like to pass onto each other. It can help us let go of a lot of the pressures society and our environment create.

Today’s example is when you’re being told you’re aimless in life.

When you look to Human Design, direction in life is a much more nuanced matter than people being accused of being without intention or ambition.

Where to Find Direction in Your Life in Your Chart

Direction in life in HD resides in the G Center. It’s the one that’s colored in in the image below.

The G Center in the bodygraph

What your chart says about direction:

The G Center is colored in (aka defined):

This means you have a fixed sense of identity and direction in your life. Irrespective of who’s around you, you’re always going to be you. You’re very little swayed in your direction in life and identity by other people.

As always in life, there are two sides to every coin. Because you’re so secure in who you are as per your design, you can be a bit rigid. It’s important to keep in mind that not everyone is like you in that way.

Your steadfastness in your self can be an inspiration to others. They just know what they’ll get when they have you in their lives.

57% of people have a defined G Center. For the rest, it’s either undefined or completely open (see below for that).

The G Center is blank with gates (aka undefined):

With an undefined G center, you have a flexible sense of identity and direction in your life. Your one of those people who likes to try on different hats. One day, you want to be a baker, another an interior designer.

Likely, well-meaning people around you have told you that you can’t do that. You’ve gotta stick to one thing (blergh!). For you, that’s not necessarily your truth. You can do and be many different things - and will be different things according to the people who are around you. You’ll find what works for you by being guided by your authority. If you follow your Strategy and Authority (S&A), they will lead you to where you need to be in life.

What’s important for you is to be mindful who you are around as you’ll take on their identities, if you’re not careful. A great example for that is the meme of Brad Pitt taking on the identity of his partners. He has an undefined G and it shows. See it for yourself below:

Your flexibility in your identity allows you to meet with and connect with many different people. With your fluid sense of self and direction in life, you’ll fit right in with everyone. At the same time, unless you follow your S&A, you can be pulled in different directions in every sense of the word.

Beware of inner pressure and mind-games that tell you that you have to finally figure out what to do for work, where to live, or to find your style. For you, it’s an ongoing story - and that makes it so fun! You have the potential to become very wise about matters of identity and direction in life.

The G Center is blank without gates (aka open):

This quote from the Definitive Book of Human Design encompasses what it means to have an open G perfectly:

“A completely open G leaves one without clear identifiable personality parameters and an inherent sense of direction. If not grounded in their personal Authority, completely open G's feel afloat and unsure of themselves, turning to others to identify and direct them, and to affirm their lovability. This leaves them vulnerable to manipulation, and open to the conditioning dictates of others. Once they give their authority over to another person, authority figure, or institution, they can no longer live out their true potential.”

The only wait out from this is to follow one’s Strategy and Authority. And just with the people with an undefined G Center, people with open Gs can acquire a great deal of wisdom about matters of identity and direction.

The Wisdom of HD in Dealing With Each Other

So, which one is it for you? Are you under pressure to find your identity or direction in life?

Has this helped you let go of the need to?

I find that the information in Human Design is so helpful for questions like these. It frees you from pressuring yourself in unnecessary ways if you have an undefined/open G. At the same time, I hope this gave you more empathy for the people in your life with a more flexible sense of who they are, in case you’re a defined G.

We’re all different and that’s the beauty and fun of it!

Have a lovely day,

Johanna
